Xi 磁カ狐to attend BRICS leaders virtual meeting

At the invitat磁カ狐ion of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, President Xi Jinping will participate in the BRICS Leaders Virtual Meeting via video link in Beijing on Monday and deliver an important address.

During the virtual meeting, the BRICS leaders will reportedly discuss the challenges facing the emerging multipolar world order, as well as a joint response by the group to the United States' unilateral moves, including tariff measures.

Brazil, which currently holds the rotating presidency of BRICS, hosted the two-day 17th BRICS Summit, with the theme of "Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance", in July in Rio de Janeiro.

BRICS, established in 2006, now has 11 full members and 10 partner countries, accounting for over half of the world's population, nearly 30 percent of global GDP, and more than 50 percent of global economic growth.

According to the Brazilian newspaper Valor Economico, the preparations for the online summit have been led by Chief Advisor to the Presidency of Brazil Celso Luiz Nunes Amorim.

On Thursday, Amorim met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing and handed over a letter from Lula to Xi. Amorim highlighted the importance of strengthening unity and cooperation among the Global South and BRICS countries during talks with Wang.
